Rotterdam, the Netherlands Pushes Ahead with Hydrogenhosting World Hydrogen 2025 Summit & Exhibition

The World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition, the largest global event on hydrogen projects, policy and technology, will take place in Europe’s hydrogen hub, Rotterdam from 20-22 May 2025. Organised by Sustainable Energy Council and RX Global in partnership with the Dutch Government, the Province of Zuid-Holland, the City of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam, World Hydrogen 2025 Summit & Exhibition will bring together international energy Ministers and CEOs with 15,000 clean energy professionals to sign new partnerships needed to unlock the challenges facing the hydrogen industry ramp up.

Although recognised as a key enabler of the energy transition, the hydrogen industry has faced a recent slowdown in deployment and sobering of targets due to high costs and macroeconomic headwinds. Despite the challenges, governments and industries world-wide have been rapidly implementing hydrogen strategies in line with 2030 and 2050 goals, resulting in 434 projects reaching FID in 2024 representing USD 75 billion.

With more than 300 projects in the Netherlands, World Hydrogen 2025 takes place in a melting pot of experience and innovation, leading Europe’s hydrogen ambitions with solid FIDs.

Under the theme “Navigating Challenges with Solid FIDs” the World Hydrogen 2025 Summit agenda comes at a pivotal moment for the hydrogen sector, hosting 2000 C-Level stakeholders from across the value chain to analyse current progress and set the next steps to activate the global hydrogen market. Confirmed speakers can be viewed on the website here.

30 country pavilions and more than 700 exhibiting companies will be present at the Exhibition making it the largest edition to date enabling global executives to connect directly with technology providers and project developers in operational phases. With participants from both established and emerging markets, World Hydrogen 2025 will provide a comprehensive global outlook on the hydrogen industry and international energy ecosystem.

The Netherlands Minister for Climate and Energy Policy and Deputy Prime Minister, Ms. Sophie Hermans said: “The government of the Netherlands is co-organizing the World Hydrogen Summit for the second time, and that is no coincidence. We want to provide certainty to the global hydrogen sector about our commitment to hydrogen and the role we want to play as the gateway to North-West Europe. The summit provides a great opportunity to share our latest policy developments and to learn from each other. This year our joint H2Global tender with Germany is an important milestone for which we will be hosting several joint sessions at the World Hydrogen Summit. By working together and making agreements now, we strengthen our energy security and create economic opportunities for a sustainable future”

Province of Zuid-Holland Regional Minister, Mr. Arne Weverling said: “Zuid-Holland is on the verge of a hydrogen economy, which is crucial for self-sufficiency and achieving our climate goals. Hydrogen can play an essential role in the transition to a green economy and offers opportunities for collaboration among businesses, knowledge institutions, and governments. With the Port of Rotterdam, strong infrastructure, and innovation capacity, we can build a hydrogen value chain that benefits the entire European continent. Projects like converting aircraft to liquid hydrogen and developing inland waterway transport as a key demand sector for green hydrogen are vital for success. Let’s join forces and create a sustainable future where hydrogen is central to our energy supply and economic growth.”

City of Rotterdam Mayor, Ms Carola Schouten said: “We are proud and honored to host the 2025 edition of the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, as we have done over the recent years. We welcome participants from all over the world at a time where the energy transition is crucial, both from a climate perspective as well as for our own prosperity and resilience. Hydrogen plays a key role in decarbonizing the energy system and for us to succeed, intensified international cooperation between countries, regions and cities, public and private parties, is required. This is what we aim for during this key-event in Rotterdam.”

Port of Rotterdam CEO, Boudewijn Siemons said: “As a key part of Europe’s industrial cluster in the Rhine Delta and a major energy port, we aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Hydrogen plays a crucial role in this ambition and in our efforts to supply European industry with low-carbon energy, ensuring its strength and thereby enhancing Europe’s strategic autonomy. Thanks to our unique location on the North Sea and excellent inland connections to other industrial clusters in the Netherlands and abroad, we are further developing as the European hub for both imported and locally produced low-carbon hydrogen in north-western Europe. The entire value chain of the hydrogen economy is now taking shape in the port of Rotterdam. We eagerly anticipate meeting all the active stakeholders in hydrogen from around the world at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025!”

Sustainable Energy Council Managing Director, Chris Hugall said: “SEC and RX Global are proud to work alongside our key partners the Dutch Government, Province of Zuid-Holland, City of Rotterdam and Port of Rotterdam to host the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition at a crucial time for the industry. Now more than ever, it’s key to continue the discussions and strengthen relationships to help mitigate risks and ramp up demand for the hydrogen industry to significantly contribute to decarbonization goals.”
